Home > Pennywell Farm - National Qualifier Sheep Dog Trials
Dog lovers everywhere can look forward to two special canine events taking place at Pennywell Farm, near Buckfastleigh.
K9 Capers dog Olympic team will be entertaining the visitors on Saturday 2nd August, followed by the welcome return pon the National Qualifier Sheepdog Trials on Wednesday 6th August.
K9 Capers arrive at Pennywell on Saturday with an afternoon packed full of activities using working dogs. Dog agility, flyball, steeplechase and disc dogs are just some of the activities taking place and the audience will be actively encouraged to join in.
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a soccer star, there will be a chance to put your skills to the test with a football mad sheepdog in a "Beat the Goalie" competition.
On Wednesday over 40 sheepdogs will be put through their paces as the National Qualifier Sheepdog Trials return to Pennywell for the 19th year. The winners will go on to complete in the English National Sheepdog Trials later in the month.
The event, Open Sheepdog Trialling, organised by the Devon and Exmoor Sheepdog Society, aims to demonstrate the skills the dogs use every day of their working life.
Pennyell's owner Chris Murray says, "I look forward to this event every year as it is a rare opportunity for visitors to Devon to enjoy this traditional sport."
"A well trained dog can do the work of a dozen people and I am full of admiration for the sheepdog. You can tell the dogs really enjoy themselves by their eagerness to work and sheer enthusiasm. A fiercely wagging tail is a great indicator of a job well done."
The sheepdog trials are on Wednesday 6th August and start at 10am.
